Hi hwoarang5,
Thank you for your input. I will address your questions point by point.
Let's begin: ;D
1.
"Do Locksmiths need to buy Lockpick tools?"Yes, they need to. Some lockpicks and bypass tools cannot be made by hand.
For example:
Square Key lockpicks, the dimple key picks, kaba lockpicks, cross key lock picks, tubular lockpicks, car opening door inflation bags, Y-tang tension wrench, car key remote duplicator, etc...
But some simple shapes can be made with a grinder, eg, hook picks, mortise door lock picks, diamond picks, solex-type square masterkey, etc..
I also make lock picks of my own - just for the fun and enjoyment of it. However, it is not really necessary to make your own. The 8-piece, 11-piece Lockpick Set that I am selling is good enough. I also use them.
2.
"Can Lock Picking be taught by talking about it?"Certainly. You can also learn through CDs, books, videotape. That is why I have created many video clips and put up plenty of pictures. Even, if you attend a Master Locksmith Course, you also learn by watching a Locksmiths. Today, with the advent of knowledge, we cannot afford to teach only purely by being an apprentice to a locksmith. Thats why books are being written, audio-visuals, Internet Multimedia are all being used to capture expert knowledge for the benefit of mankind. Not just locksmithing, but all other disciplines as well, eg, Medicine, Law, Engineering... Gone are the days when knowledge is transmitted purely by secrecy and direct word-of-mouth.
The transmission of knowledge today is much more efficient and orderly. Even in the University of Pennsylvania, Lockpicking is being taught in an orderly and systematic way through proper coursenotes, lectures and lab practice. Lockpicking is part of the curriculum of Security Professionals, and that includes Computer Security Experts. Lockpicking is not the sole monopoly of the Locksmith anymore.
Also, you can learn how to lockpick, make your own picks, understand how locks work and much more, all from the Internet. For example, an excellent website:
www.lockpicking101.comGo here and you will see plenty of videos:
www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=588The above website comprise an international conglomeration of locksmiths + hobby lockpickers from all over the world. In the above site, the Forum Moderators are mostly Locksmiths! And they are open and willing to discuss lockpicking with non-professionals. We can also do the same. I have learnt a great deal about lockpicking just by watching people talk about lockpicking at the above website, so can you, or anyone else.
3.
"Why do we need to use the words teach lock picking?don't that stuff our ego to far out?"See reply in 2 above.
As to your words "stuf our ego" out. My reply is, why should teaching lockpicking stuff our ego out? As described in para 2 above, Lockpicking today is being taught as a subject of study just like computer security, or any other disciplines, why should teaching "stuff our ego" out?
Referring to your phrase "pros don't teach, ".
I disagree. Professionals do teach, and we see professionals teaching locksmithing in courses being conducted in US, UK, Europe, Hongkong and even in Malaysia. And the teaching modules include Impressioning, Masterkeying, Lockpicking etc... And all these courses are being taught by people who are professionals. You could take a courses in Locksmithing and get certified as a Master Locksmith. In overseas, anyone can take a Locksmith course - which includes lockpicking.
In other countries, Professional Locksmiths make money not just by duplicating keys, making master keys, rekeying, installing locks, lockout openings, but they also teach.
I hope I have adequately answered all your questions. How about some inputs anyone else? ;D
