Hi Everyone,
Thanks for visiting this forum. I have started a new thread to discuss the Law and Morality of Lockpick Tools in Malaysia.
OK, to start off the discussion, may I just say that I have analyzed the following Malaysian laws:
Malaysian Penal Code
Criminal Procedure Code (CPC)
Minor Offences Act
Internal Security Act
Prevention of Crimes Act
and discover that the sale of Lockpick Tools is not regulated nor prohibited by the Laws of Malaysia. At time of writing, there also aren't any Locksmiths Laws in Malaysia AFAIK.
As to the ethics. Is it morally wrong to sell or buy Lockpick Tools. I ask a question: Is it morally wrong to sell or buy knives, screwdrivers, hammers, saws, insecticides, etc....
I say that whether selling or buying lockpick tools is right or wrong depends on the usage of those tools. We need lockpick tools to do emergency lockout openings, to repair locks, to make new keys for locks where keys are missing, to test, fix and replace damaged pins and springs, to remove plugs, to extract broken keys, to troubleshoot problematic locks, to do re-keying, to do masterkeying, etc... In other words, lockpick tools is a necessity.
We need knives to survive, to cut and prepare food, to build, construct, for art, to defend, to hunt, to do surgery, to save lives, etc...
We need screwdrivers, hammers, saws, drills to build, create repair artifacts, machines, mechanical appliances, buildings, etc...
We need insecticides to manage crops from destructive pests, to prevent the spread of disease borne vectors, etc...
Post your views on the law and morality here, and give reasons. Enjoy ;D
If you are stating the law, please be specific, please quote the Act, section and provision.
Thank you.
